Why It’s Important To Make Time For Self-Reflection
Why Self-Reflection Is Important
When we are told that we need to take a step back and take a look at the (wo)man in the mirror, we get in our feelings. Most of the time, we may think that we are doing all the right things but then when we really start to think about it, it something doesn’t feel right.
This has happened to me a couple of times this year. It has also allowed me to get to know myself better. Yeah, I know it sounds weird. But often times, we never take the time to self-reflect. To really understand why we do some of the things we do. This may sound crazy, but it could be as simple as why you struggle with receiving compliments from others.
THIS IS ME.
I did not understand why at the beginning of 2018, but I understand now. Surprisingly, I took the time to revisit my past and ask myself the tough questions. The questions, that I had somehow buried deep within my subconscious. Why do I struggle with receiving and accepting compliments?
I didn’t feel worthy
I didn’t want to be judged
You’re probably thinking, what in the world?! But it’s true. Whenever someone would say, “you are so pretty”, I would cringe. Because I didn’t want them to think, I thought I was better than them. Yep. They would give the compliment, but I would feel bad. This is just one of the many examples that I could give. For the sake of this post, we are going to go with this one.
Why Is Self-Reflection Important?
You control the outcome.
That’s right. Sometimes we do things that help us to be better or to do better. We may take classes, go to a therapy session, we may even have a group of friends that helps to keep us accountable. When you take a look in the mirror, you have a better understanding of what makes you tick and what ticks you off. I know I am discussing self-reflection but self-acceptance and self-praise are also very important.
Why Should You Make Time For Self-Reflection?
It’s Simple.
Because you are WORTH IT.
It is already challenging enough to always play the comparison game. To not feel like you are not worth your weight in gold. Simply because someone else is doing the very thing that you want to do. Time to put your big girl panties on and take a long hard look in the mirror. Understand your emotions. Give yourself pep talk and praise!
I now at look at myself in a different way. More importantly, I love the woman I am becoming. Trusting in all the gifts and talents that God has blessed me with and trusting the process. No one ever said it would be easy. However, by taking the time out for self-reflection every now and again only makes it better. We can’t be all that we are meant to be if we are constantly chasing the dreams of others. Trust in your talents and skills.
Trust Your Journey.
You may still be on the fence on starting your blog, or maybe taking that photoshop class, listen to me…
