Your Ego

I learned a very valuable lesson in 2018 and it is a lesson that now consider a LIFE LESSON. This lesson has to do with something we all have…

EGO (PRIDE)

Let me start with a little background. I am not sure where this came from, I think it was a conversation that I was having with God and she spoke to me very clearly so that I could understand. For years I have put myself in a position as a “people pleaser” always worried about what people would say or think about me.  In 2018, I came to the realization that it isn’t really about me. Nope. It has aways been about the other person. More so, the other persons ego.

You see, every year I have to attend family functions where I am not seen as a part of the family. More importantly, I have to be surrounded by people that I don’t want to be around. However, I still have to put on this front that I am “happy” to be in the presence of people who don’t and never will see me as family. This past year I ask myself, why?

Why do I put myself  in a position to not feel welcome?

Why do I continue to smile and parade around as if i am happy to be in the presence of those who don’t treat me as family?

Then while in a moment of peace and reflection I figured it out. Simply put, I do it for the sake of the egos of others. I do it so the other person doesn’t look bad. I do it so the other person can continue to live in the fairytale that all is well and perfect. But in reality, it isn’t, and it hasn’t been for a very long time.

At what point can you put another persons ego in check?

Better yet…

What about me?

I’m always the one sacrificing for the egos of others. Always walking around with a smile on my face when deep down things are not as what they seem. Funny thing, the other person will never ask if you are ok, they will never check-in to see if you are even comfortable being in a situation that actually makes you uncomfortatble. Nope. The reason is simple, their ego is more important than your feelings. So, this year I am making a promise to myself not to be put into situations where I am not comfortable. I will exercise my right to say NO even if it means crushing someones ego. Please keep in mind that feelings and egos are two totally different things.

It is not my job to continue to stroke your ego when you never consider me. In other words, your ego is not my problem. If you are seeking validation, encouragement amongst others things all while having my feelings in limbo… then…

I am not the one.

My ego has aways put others first but thanks to this new found realization, not anymore. Now is the time to keep my self peace in tact and to let go of the burdens and expections of others.  This is has been one of the most freeing things I have ever done in my life.

Bring It On 2019

2019 Why It Will Be The Best Year Yet

I am not waiting around for 2019 to arrive. Nope. I am starting now.  2018 has been a good, yet challenging year. This year has taught me so much about myself.  More importantly, it has directed me to my path and purpose. Most of you would a agree that there have been some great days. But more importantly, there have been some challenging days.

Even though those days were challenging, they have opened my eyes. Opened my eyes on what I want 2019 to look like for me and my family. See, I never started blogging for “free stuff”. I started blogging because I have multiple passions that I want to share with the world.

There is more to me than what meets the eye. You may see me as a fashion blogger. Other may see me as a digital content creator. Some may see me as a makeup artist and all of these are true but…

I see myself as an entrepreneur.

Yep. The shift is coming and it’s all for the better. It is why I started blogging in the first place. I wanted to be able to leave my full-time corporate sales job and help others pursue their dreams. Especially, within the corporate workforce. For most of my career, I felt that there was a huge lack of diversity. My mission was and still is to help women break into the industries that support their passion. With that being said, I want to share with you today…

5 Reasons Why 2019 Will Be The Best Year Yet (For Me)

1. Focused Clear Vision- I have debated, and thought long and hard on going back to the basics.  By doing this, I have set my goals on my vision and I plan to keep it clear of distractions. I have to continue to hold myself accountable so I can continue to walk in my purpose and serve those around me.

2. Purpose Driven- I 2019 I will let my passions lead me and not my fears. I have learned that I can easily get discouraged by trying to do things that “others” think I should be doing. I will stay true to my purpose and know that I will succeed.

One thing I will never take for granted is learning.

3. Continued Education-  I know a lot about my industry and being a successful content creator. But, I also know the key to growth and success is to always be learning to stay ahead. I will continue to attend conferences that will educate me so that I can continue being an expert in my field.

4. My Story- In 2019, I will be sharing more of my story. I want to connect with like-minded women so we can encourage and lift each other up. My story is interesting, but it is also powerful. I can’t wait to share more of who I am with you in the new year.

5. Brand & Tools- There will be a brand re-launch going down in 2019! I’m so excited that I seriously can’t contain it. I will also be sharing more here on the site about some of the challenges I have faced with dealing with other “professionals”. Last but not least, there will be some new resources and tools coming your way to help you to take your brand and business to the next level!

So, as you can see, for the Tiffany D. Brown brand 2019 will be the best year yet! It’s time for me to be intentional about what I want, and to make a solid plan to go and get it!

What reasons do you have that will make your 2019 your best year yet? What are some actionable steps you are going to take to reach your goals?

Let me know in the comments below so that I can help to keep you encouraged and on track!

One Of Our Family Traditions

Once upon a time, we used to take random pictures during the holidays. I mainly wanted pictures to use on our Christmas cards. It wasn’t until about 3 years ago I realized that I didn’t want the headache of trying to get everyone together for ME to be the one to take our family pictures. Honestly, because it was just a lot on me and I would always be the one trying to coordinate everything. If you have ever had to do this then you can appreciate my frustration. The one thing my family does every year is invest in professional family photos.

Yep. This mamma got smart and did something that she should have done years ago…

HIRE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER

Now, I am not talking about just any photographer. You need to hire a photographer that has experience taking pictures of families. When researching the right photographer you want to hire someone that has experience with finding great locations. Also, a photographer that will help with posing ideas and is great with kids. This year, I decided to hire the same photographer as last year because I really loved her work. Not to mention, I have worked with her in the past to capture pictures for the blog. The great thing about working with her was that we had all of our edited photos within 48 hours!

Perfect timing for our family Christmas cards!

I honestly didn’t think I was going to be able to get my Christmas cards mailed on time. But since her turnaround time was so quick, everyone received their Christmas cards before Christmas! Woo Hoo!

Having family photos captured every year has honestly become our little tradition. It is a tradition that I am so happy that I decided to implement. Looking back on our Christmas pictures from last year, it shows how much our kids have grown. More importantly, it is a reminder that time waits for no one. It’s a little bittersweet but it is something that I cherish so very much. If you are looking for a family tradition to start with your family, this one is perfect!

From my family to yours,  Merry Christmas!

I often times have this mood. The mood of not wanting to go anywhere or do anything. to some people that may sound cray-cray. However, I believe that we all need to take a break from the things that keep us so “busy”.

For me, I don’t have a manager to help me do all of the things that I need to get done and completed on a weekly basis. It is up to me and what I am willing to put into my business. I wanted to share something with you…we all need a break.

We need to take time to take care of ourselves.

Mentally & Physically.

With that being said, I am going to share with you what you should do when you don’t feel like going out.

Yes, it is ok to be an introvert sometimes.

Here are a few things you can do to have a cozy and relaxing night in

  1. Create a mood that will help you to relax. Maybe you want to light a few candles and have Alexa play your favorite playlist.
  2. Pamper Yourself. You deserve it! If you don’t want to lounge around in your black tights or sweatpants with no bra on…DO IT!
  3. Snacks! When you head to the grocery store be sure to pick up some of your favorite snacks and treats. Hey, I know we are all trying to stay healthy. However, you are allowed a cheat day! So claim it!

A word of wisdom to start your week off right.

You can’t pour from an empty cup.

We always want to show up and be the best we can be every day. With that being said, we have to make time to love on ourselves. You don’t have to go to every event or every party. Take time to put your feet up, binge watch on your favorite show and get some well-deserved rest.

You Deserve It!

Why Self-Reflection Is Important

When we are told that we need to take a step back and take a look at the (wo)man in the mirror, we get in our feelings. Most of the time, we may think that we are doing all the right things but then when we really start to think about it, it something doesn’t feel right.

This has happened to me a couple of times this year. It has also allowed me to get to know myself better. Yeah, I know it sounds weird. But often times, we never take the time to self-reflect. To really understand why we do some of the things we do. This may sound crazy, but it could be as simple as why you struggle with receiving compliments from others.

THIS IS ME.

I did not understand why at the beginning of 2018, but I understand now. Surprisingly, I took the time to revisit my past and ask myself the tough questions. The questions, that I had somehow buried deep within my subconscious. Why do I struggle with receiving and accepting compliments?

I didn’t feel worthy

I didn’t want to be judged

You’re probably thinking, what in the world?! But it’s true. Whenever someone would say, “you are so pretty”, I would cringe. Because I didn’t want them to think, I thought I was better than them. Yep. They would give the compliment, but I would feel bad.  This is just one of the many examples that I could give. For the sake of this post, we are going to go with this one.

Why Is Self-Reflection Important?

You control the outcome.

That’s right. Sometimes we do things that help us to be better or to do better. We may take classes, go to a therapy session, we may even have a group of friends that helps to keep us accountable. When you take a look in the mirror, you have a better understanding of what makes you tick and what ticks you off. I know I am discussing self-reflection but self-acceptance and self-praise are also very important.

Why Should You Make Time For Self-Reflection?

It’s Simple.

Because you are WORTH IT.

It is already challenging enough to always play the comparison game. To not feel like you are not worth your weight in gold. Simply because someone else is doing the very thing that you want to do. Time to put your big girl panties on and take a long hard look in the mirror. Understand your emotions. Give yourself pep talk and praise!

I now at look at myself in a different way. More importantly, I love the woman I am becoming. Trusting in all the gifts and talents that God has blessed me with and trusting the process. No one ever said it would be easy. However, by taking the time out for self-reflection every now and again only makes it better. We can’t be all that we are meant to be if we are constantly chasing the dreams of others. Trust in your talents and skills.

Trust Your Journey.

You may still be on the fence on starting your blog, or maybe taking that photoshop class, listen to me…

DO IT

2019 will be here before you know it. Have a little self-reflection party before planning your 2019 vision board party. (Priorities)  I can guarantee by taking the time to self-reflect, will help you in receiving clarity around your goals.

Do you make time to self-reflect? If so, what have you learned in the process?

All-White Event In The Middle Of November

This post was created in partnership with Mazda. All opinions are my own.

This past week was by far one of the busiest weeks I have had all year! I had several events that I had to attend and I am glad I was able to partner with Mazda to get everything done. The first day of my adventure started at the polls. It was election day and I had to cast my vote. However, I allowed my buddy Cheeto tag along with me for the ride. If you don’t know who/what “Cheeto” is, then head over to my Instagram page and click on the M & Cheeto highlight.

Today, I’m sharing ways to prepare for an all-white event in the middle of November. Although, my to-do list was super long, I was able to get everything done.

1. Plan

Planning is key when your schedule is jammed packed. One thing I made sure to do was to make a list. I made a list outlining all of the things that I NEEDED to do. (keyword) There will be plenty of things you will want to do, but normally it can wait. Also, by making a plan, you will get more accomplished.

2. Collaborate

When attending multiple events its more fun with others. I normally try to avoid going to events solo, because I don’t want to look like the oddball. However, I know we have to do what we need to at times. Luckily for me, that wasn’t the case. Knowing that I was running around getting things in order for the event, I reached out to another friend. Luckily, she was attending the event with me. The day of the event we jumped in the Mazda CX-3 and headed to the location. We had so much fun! If you want to read more about the event you can check out my post here.

3. Relax

With the above mention tips, it made my week less stressful. A lot of times when we are overwhelmed we don’t perform well.  Planning and collaboration made it so easy for me to relax and actually

HAVE FUN!

I know most of the events I attended was work-related but it didn’t feel like work. Now, I just have to get better with sharing all of the pictures I capture at these events! Check out some pictures from the events that week.

Finally, If you are interested in the Diner en Blanc event you can check out the post here. Also, you can check out the post on our first visit to a Disney Park for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

A few events had I going on that week:

Voting & Shopping

US Virgin Islands & Spirit Airlines

 Blog Photoshoot

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

Orlando International Fashion Show

Diner en Blanc

What You Should Consider About Being Thankful This Year

There is so much that comes with the holidays. Although it can be the best time of the year for some, for others it may have its challenges. Not every family gets along with each other. More importantly, not everyone really wants to spend time with people that others “think” they should be happy to be around.

Often times, we experience different challenges throughout the year that lead us to grow distant from our loved ones. With that being said, some can paint a picture of a “perfect” life and family but in reality, it’s not the case. So many people struggle with this.

I am one of them.

Relationships are what WE make them. We have to put a lot of time and energy into others and sometimes we can feel like it is never reciprocated. But there are a few things that I have learned and I wanted to share with you if you are in the same boat with me.

Before I get into that, please know that I am incredibly grateful to experience the true definition of love with my children. I never saw myself as the “mother” type. Honestly, I guess I didn’t feel like I would be a great mother. God had other plans for me. Plans that changed my life forever. He has shown me what true love really is and I have the opportunity to wake up every day and look love in the face.

Through my children.

I recognize and understand how blessed I really am. Even when things get stressful God always sends me a sign that he is still with me and that he will never leave nor forsake me. Most times…it comes in the form of a simple kiss from M or a random hug from C. Through them, I know how much I am loved and appreciated.

Holidays can be difficult but I want to share these  4 Things to Consider About Being Thankful:

1. Be thankful for the blessings.

2. Being thankful should also include giving thanks during the challenges life brings

3. Being thankful is a choice

4. Be thankful for the things that God will do in the future.

Even if the holidays are not your “thing” there is still a lot to be thankful for. Remember that. I hope you enjoy the time you have with your families this Thanksgiving Holiday.

20 Life Lessons That I Have Learned This Year

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

I received complimentary tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in exchange for my review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Just like that, Christmas is right around the corner. I am one of those people who typically wait until after Thanksgiving to put up my Christmas tree and hang all of my Christmas decorations.

After having the opportunity to attend Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, I think I want my Christmas tree up now! It is time to break out the Christmas music and movies! However,  this was the very first time my kids, C who is 7 and M who is 4 experiencing a Disney park. Seeing the two of them light up with so much joy and excitement made my soul happy. I was reminded that through there eyes this world can be an exciting and magical place.

It also reminded me of the very first time that my parents brought me and my sister to Disney so, so many moons ago.

Arrival

I found out that we would have the opportunity to take the kids to  Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party. We told them that if they did well in school that we would take them somewhere fun and that they would have an amazing time! I can’t believe we kept it a secret all week long. Once we made it on the grounds of Magic Kingdom the kids were so confused. They started shouting we are at Magic Kingdom?! What are we doing here?! The excitement ringing through their voices was pure bliss.

Once we parked the car, I told C to pay attention to the number on the ground. I explained to him we needed to remember the number so we could locate our car when it is time to leave. One thing we forgot to mention was…remember which character lot you parked in. For us, it was Villians. If it wasn’t for C lets just say we would have been lost. He remembers exactly where we parked and made sure we all made it safely back to the car. We were so incredibly proud of him.

As first timers to the park, there was a lot that we had to take in. For starters, once we checked in at the ticket booth and received our complimentary passes, we boarded the ferry boat to take us to the park. Once inside the gates, it felt like we had just stepped into another world! It was Christmas decor everywhere you turned. It was so beautiful!

After strolling along and taking in the scene and of course taking a few pictures we wandered down to Adventureland. We had a chance to check out the Pirates of the Carribean ride and M actually didn’t jump ship! I was like…she is NOT going for this! Then afterward we headed to check out

A Frozen Holiday Wish

Ok, this is where Queen Elsa transformed Cinderella’s Castle into a glittering ice palace! M was so excited for this part. Just watching the castle light up was breathtaking! Then we were able to experience up close and personal Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration, where you actually felt the holiday magic come alive in the live and vibrant stage show that filled the air with music, dancing, and shimmering snowflakes. Now if that wasn’t enough there was still more to see and experience!

We strolled down Maint Street where the kids had the chance to see and play with “snow” and they actually attempted to eat/taste the snow! After strolling into a few stores we found a nice comfy spot to set up for the

Mickey’s Once Upon A Time Christmastime Parade

You can check footage from our visit here! There are no words to describe the feeling of seeing your babies so excited and mesmerized. To wrap up the night we stayed and experienced

Holiday Wishes: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season fireworks!

Talk about a jammed packed evening! The kids were so exhausted they didn’t make it 5 minutes after we hit the road to come back home! However, they work up bright and early, grabbed their new bubble wands that we purchased at the If you are considering attending I would highly recommend going. There is something purely magical about it. Of course, if you have any questions, just comment below and I will e more than happy to answer them for you!

I Have To Attend This Event Every Year

For as long as I can remember attending this event was always so much fun. Although times have changed and I am now much older it still holds a special place in my heart. Every time I return home during the month of October, it is always centered around The Mississippi State Fair and my sister’s birthday. I guess you can say it is now more like a family tradition.

I grew up in a very small town in Mississippi. With a population now of a little over 1,000 people, Terry, MS is home. It’s the one place where time stands still. Seriously. When I was visiting recently I noticed how different Terry is in comparison to all the other places that I have lived. No one is in a hurry. People will stop and carry on conversations with you. (even if you have no clue as to who they are) What was most surprising was when we had to make a stop at the grocery store and no one had their cell phones in hand. I was like (insert big eyes) Is that even normal?

But it is…

This is the country and there are more important things to do and enjoy and it doesn’t involve a cell phone tower. While I was at home, my sister De’Ana was in town. We were waiting for our youngest sister Jaz to arrive from Atlanta so that we could go to the one place that brings out our inner child.

The Mississippi State Fair

Ahh…the memories. There is nothing like The Mississippi State Fair.  Although I had to do a detox upon return back to Florida, it was worth it. Now that we are older, it is no longer about the rides. It’s about the quality time spent walking up and down the Midway and the food. I wish you could have seen the “list” of items that my dad wanted us to bring back home!

We had to bring in an extra tote bag just to carry all of the food! Not to mention we walked what felt like 10 miles just to find the cinnamon roll stand. De almost threw in the towel. After over 30 minutes of searching in the 90-degree weather, we found it! We were some happy campers.

So your probably wondering what in the hell did we buy?

Well, we purchased:

Elephant Ears

Funnel Cake

Candy Apples

Cinnamon Rolls

Malones Taffy

Penn’s Chicken on a Stick

Shish-Ka-Bobs

3 Important Reasons Why Married Couples Love Las Vegas

Everyone needs and deserves a vacation! I don’t care if you’re a mother, father, or child. It doesn’t matter.

Everyone deserves and needs a vacation.

Prior to taking a trip to Las Vegas my husband and I had not been on a solo trio together in almost 5 years. Basically, we allowed life to get too busy and forgot about how important it is to truly spend one on one time together.

So we planned a trip.

The last trip I remember was a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico A couple of years ago and it was really good. And then we just haven’t done anything together for the past couple of years. So this trip was a little it was one that we really needed both as a couple and individually.

Our trip was last minute. However, we knew that the kids were going to spend some time with the grandparents. Knowing this,  we wanted to work it out just as efficiently as we could. If they’re going for about a week, we wanted to make sure that we had a trip worked into the plans as well.

We drove up to New Orleans and dropped the kids off at the grandparents and we made our way back to Florida. After a few days of work and dropping the family dog off at the kennel we hopped on our flight to Las Vegas. (insert praise hands)

It was kind of weird because we haven’t taken a trip together in so long we were acting like kids in a candy store. Did I mention that we had an entire week planned without our kiddos? (insert praise hands again)

What do we do with ourselves? We don’t have any kids. This is really weird. But it was really, really good for us and that’s why that I want to write this post.

Number 1: Quality Time

I would have to say the number one reason you would love Las Vegas is that you and your partner would have the chance to reconnect. It is a great opportunity to talk about things, and have the opportunity to enjoy some “first” experiences together. Although I travel a lot to different conferences, I rarely get the chance to take trips with my husband outside of the trips we take as a family.

Quality time is a really big deal. One thing that I want to make sure to do was to unplug.  I didn’t bring my computer or my laptop. I made a point to ensure that this trip was going to be strictly a vacation. No blogging,  no YouTube,  and barely any Instagram. I know that being on my iPhone is a big deal to him and he thinks I’m on it all the time 24/7  (which is totally not true) but it is the perception of me being on my phone all the time. So I made sure that I left my computer behind and I only used my phone to capture pictures and content that I could share later. Most importantly, he knew that I was present and I wasn’t so concerned with posting all the time.

Honestly, it was quite refreshing not to be so worried about social media and posting, but just living in the moment and enjoying the memories that we were making with each other.

Number 2: Have a Bucket List

Make a list make a bucket list of destinations that the two of you would want to see and experience. This would have to be a key takeaway for me.  Because we’ve done trips in the past but it hasn’t been to where I’ve created a “bucket list”  of places that I knew what wanted to visit/experience. Granted,  didn’t get a chance to visit every single one of them but we checked off the majority of the things on the list. This made it so much easier to make sure that we maximized our time in Las Vegas.

Here are a few things that we had on our “bucket list”

  1.  Take a picture at the Welcome to Vegas sign.

  2.  Visit the Botanical Gardens at the Bellagio

  3.  Watch the Bellagio Fountain Show

  4.  Visit Seven Magic Mountains

Just to name a few! I will have a complete list of all of the things we did coming up in a separate post. So stay tuned!

Number #3:  It’s not all about gambling!

It’s more about…being able to have adult conversations and talk about our plans for life. We set goals and experienced so much as a couple.  It’s all about the experience.

One thing was for sure, it was really, really, HOT!  I would suggest not to visit Las Vegas during the months of June, July, August. This, of course, is if you would like to enjoy outdoors during the day. We would suggest the best time to visit would be during the months of October,  November, or even September. Trust me! (we asked a local lol)

This trip was extremely nice and now I am ready to plan our next getaway! By taking this trip, I really want to travel more.  Thank you, Mazda because of your partnership we were able to experience so many different things that we would not have been able to experience. Thank you for sponsoring this post and allowing us to ride around in this brand new CX 9. This vehicle was truly amazing!  I really wish I could have brought the 2018 CX-9  back home so the kids could have enjoyed it as well.

Remember to make time for each other but most importantly, travel with each other.
